Virtual Tour of My School in Minecraft

During the summer I have been working on a project, and I am very excited to share it with you all. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, students like me have been forced to attend schools from our homes. This has made me miss going to school everyday. It’s been months since I last saw the familiar hallways and classrooms. This got me thinking, into how I could see the school without actually going there. While on the internet I got inspired when I read an article on students from Stanford and UPenn recreating their campuses in Minecraft. So I thought, what if I could do this for my school?  After acquiring all the information I could, I began the project. At first, I suffered some major setbacks, because I didn’t plan well. Rooms got out of proportion and were not properly positioned. I realized building such a huge structure requires blueprints, and every little detail has to be well thought out. In Minecraft, I could rebuild a part I messed up, however in real life, that just isn’t possible without losing a lot of money. This project really helped illustrate the importance of planning. It took me many hours to complete, however once I was done I was very happy with the finished product. I was also so excited when my principal chose to post my video on our school’s TJ Distance Learning Network as a welcome back virtual tour. I thought that it was very nice of him to do that. He even shared the video with all of TJ’s student’s families. I was happy that my friends could also experience walking through our school once again. Will it not be cool, if this video can be expanded and used for conducting open houses, and parent-teacher conference tours from a safe distance. In the end, this project was definitely worth the effort.

I present to you the tour of my school, Thomas Jefferson Middle School, rebuilt in Minecraft!
