Supercomputers play an important role in the field of computational science, and are used for a wide range of computationally intensive tasks. They are usually thousands of times faster than ordinary personal computers. Supercomputers can do arithmetic jobs very fast, so they are used for weather forecasting, code-breaking, genetic analysis and other jobs that need many calculations. I my video blog, I am discussing some of the use cases and also a recent development, where Supercomputers helped analyze bradykinin behavior behind COVID-19, giving the much needed breakthrough finding cure.
The bradykinin genetic discovery ultimately came courtesy of Oak Ridge’s supercomputers Summit and Rhea, which crunched data sets representing some 17,000 genetic samples while comparing each of these samples to some 40,000 genes.
